Donna is amazing with dogs. Her occam’s razor approach to her book makes for clear, consice and simple explanations. Her examples are logical and easy to follow, effectively communicating trustworthiness with your dog. I particularly enjoyed the dog’s perspective at the beginning of each chapter! Thank you, Donna!

  2. Gypsy & Shelley

This is an awesome little book for beginner handlers. Donna Whitmore demonstrates her great understanding of dogs while teaching how to use positive reinforcement to train basic behaviours in our canine companions. Do we love this book? Yip yip yip!

    WOOF!
A Dogs Guide to Training Basic Behaviors
This is such an enjoyable easy read on Basic Behaviours of our dogs, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I didnt put the book down until I was finished it. I loved reading the bits from the dogs point of view.
It makes so much sense how a dogs mind works, ie..Safe or Not Safe, and once you understand that, training becomes much easier.
The step by step guide to training our dogs for basic everyday behaviours that we want to encourage is easy to follow, easy to refer back to and simply put…. just makes sense…

Donna is one of the first Professional Trainers to use Positive Reward based training methods in a world that was used to using and believing in Corrective training…
I’m looking forward to reading her second book, “WOOF! WOOF! Beyond Basic Behaviors” , in what is, I hope, a series, of dog training tools….

    Shirlee
Marley, Shasta & Harley will surely benefit from my learning ….

Great book on the foundations of dog training. She has a great positive reinforcement approach that I’ve found to be successful with all dogs we’ve used it on! I look forward to the next book in the series – will be more recommended reading for all beginning trainers!

  5. Matthias Dahl

Nice step-by-step guide for training the basics to puppies and new dogs. I like the positive and fun approach to teaching and so do the animals. Lure-reward training is the best way to train for good results and a happy pup.

  6. Dorothy Laton

Donna Whitmore is quite brilliant when it comes to training dogs, and communicating her knowledge to the handler. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and read it from front to back. It’s a fun, yet very informative read, and I love that she writes from the dog’s perspective! For a wonderful book, that is written in a fun, concise manner, I can’t recommend this book enough. Waiting for Woof Woof, which will also, I’m sure, be full of helpful information!
